HUNGRY FOR HUNGARIKUM
As people who know me well know, I am not just a
Travel Bug but a foodie too. So without much ado, will recommend a must-visit
restaurant that we visited not once, but twice, during our recent trip to
Budapest.
Hungarikum Bistro is currently ranked 7th amongst the 2000+ odd restaurants in Budapest on TripAdvisor and has garnered a ‘Certificate of Excellence’, deservedly so. The restaurant serves truly authentic Hungarian cuisine in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Make sure you book before you go as it gets really busy. The first time we went for lunch, we ordered the recommended 3-course Hungarikum menu which consisted of Goulash Soup with Mini Noodles, Crispy Duck Leg with Onion Potatoes and Braised Cabbage and finally, Cinnamon Flavoured Apple Pie with VanilĂa Sauce. All three courses were divine and had us craving for more.

The little complimentary starter that
they serve is scrumptious too. Thus the decision to visit again the next day. The
second time around, we tried the Oven Baked Sausage with Mustard as an appetizer,
Breaded Drumstic (Chicken Leg) Fillet with Mashed Potatoes and Stripes of Loin
of Pork with Garlic & Fried Potatoes as the mains, finally topped off with Home
Made Chocolate Cake with Sour Cherry Sauce for dessert. Mind you, the portions
are very generous so a total of 4 items in all between two people is more than
enough.
At the end of the meal, they give you a little
booklet to take home as a keepsake which contains the recipe for goulash and
other information such as key Hungarian words, which was a nice touch. This
restaurant is highly recommended. (http://hungarikumbisztro.hu/concept.html).
The location is also very convenient, being close to the Hungarian Parliament
building, another must-see in Budapest.
